The Firm

Kosinski Architecture, Inc., with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Branford, Connecticut, is led by Peter Kosinski, AIA, NCARB and Peter Kosinski, Jr., LEED AP. Both principals have Masters of Architecture degrees from Yale University. Kosinski Sr. also has a Master of Planning degree from Yale. Kosinski Architecture, Inc. has been producing award-winning designs for decades. The firms portfolio spans a variety of building types, including religious, residential, educational, mixed-use, and resort projects. The scope of its work ranges from single-family residences to multi-block, urban development and redevelopment properties.

The firm is focused on creating inspired spaces and quality built environments within clients budgets and parameters. Kosinski has extensive experience working with individual clients, institutional design committees, facility department heads and real estate developers. The company has a strong background as team leader on creative partnering development projects. In these collaborations, the company creates an environment of mutual benefit between land asset and capital asset development partners. It provides researched and creative design solutions that work toward achieving the investment goals of the development client as well as the needs of stakeholders and land asset holders. Kosinskis work employs both modern and traditional idioms, providing skillful responses to program and technical requirements, regardless of stylistic genres. When clients require that their projects be based on traditional or classical styles, the firm explores the internal design mechanisms and strategies inherent to such architecture in order to deliver an innovative response to the clients goals within that genre.

The firm works to engage the client and project in the fundamentals of design, regardless of historical reference. The company avoids slavish reproductions of the past and focuses on the essence of what it believes makes architecture inspired and functional. This approach is evident in Kosinskis religious designs as well as in such projects as the pioneering Mount Ascutney resort complex, in which ski lodges, a hotel, and condominiums reference the architectural vocabulary of the nearby rural village of Brownsville, Vermont. As a certified restoration expert, Kosinski has knowledge of and appreciation for architectural history. On renovation projects, the firm is responsible for meeting the clients programmatic and technical goals while working with and enhancing a historical structure. The firm has received awards from the American Institute of Architects and the New Haven Preservation Trust for its restoration design of historic buildings.

Since its inception, Kosinski has employed sustainable strategies in its projects. With a staff of LEED Accredited Professionals, the firm provides in-house expertise and works with industry-leading, world renowned building science engineering consultants to provide energy modeling and advanced technical approaches in sustainable design. Beyond the technical aspects of sustainability, the appreciation of nature, light, views, climate, and materials informs Kosinskis work. As a result, the base components of sustainability are integrated into the firms designs as elements of aesthetic benefit and livability. For Kosinski, design engages both occupants and nature and nature benefits both the occupants and design. The company works to provide a positive connection between architecture and the environment one that ultimately adds value to a project.

The firms approach to design starts with the understanding of the clients needs and aspirations. Be it a high density, multi-use urban development project or an addition to a residence, clients are encouraged to work closely with the firm, team consultants, and contractors in order to achieve a fruitful dialogue and a successful project.
