The St. Mary parish required a new parish center to provide administrative functions, a new parish hall that could be divided into separate classrooms with an adjoining commercial kitchen, and a garage for the pastor and other priests residing at the adjoining rectory. The program required that the hall connect directly to the church level with grade so that easy passage could be made between the two. All of this had to be accomplished within a tight sloping site condition. In addition the new facility needed to be connected to the rectory as well, so as to provide direct connection to the garage and administration, as well as create a bridge between the church and rectory. The architect's task therefor, was to nestle the facility between the existing church, rectory and parking and provide direct access to all of those within the constraints of the site, including limitations of setbacks and the slope across the site.
